What is microdosing?
The practice of taking reduced doses of psychedelics involves consuming between one-tenth and one-twentieth of a full dose of mushrooms. Consumption of 100mg or more is considered a microdose. The term was coined in 2011 by veteran psychedelic researcher James Fadiman, PhD, in his book *The Psychedelic Explorer's Guide*, and has since become a cultural phenomenon.
What does it feel like to microdose mushrooms?
Unlike a full dose of psychedelics, a microdose aims to be "subperceptual," meaning barely perceptible. Therefore, the goal of a microdose is more about a slight opening or intensification of the senses, which for many people translates into a greater sense of presence in their daily activities.
Why do people consume microdoses of mushrooms? What are the benefits of mushroom microdosing?
The reasons people practice microdosing are as varied as the people themselves, but some general trends do exist. Many of the 83 people who responded to a survey conducted by Double Blind Mag reported that they microdosed for mental health-related reasons, such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), bipolar disorder, ADHD, addiction, and even pain management.
Another common reason for microdosing is to enhance creativity and focus. For example, many people find they make new connections during microdosing days that they wouldn't normally make. Likewise, many people report that microdosing helps them quiet their thoughts and concentrate more deeply on the task at hand, or even enter a state of total concentration where they are so engrossed in an activity that they lose track of time.
Achieving a state of flow is one of the main reasons why microdosing is gaining popularity among artists, musicians, writers, programmers, and even athletes, who find that this practice helps them disconnect from their thoughts and focus more on their workouts.
