As staunch defenders of the plant and its properties, we have always advocated for free access to it, including the right for those of us who enjoy gardening to grow our own plants. It would be wonderful to be able to cultivate our own little plants from time to time. And although some countries and states allow it, there are others that are still a bit behind in their knowledge and handling of this plant.
But for those who don't live in places run by reactionaries, here are the basic things you should know about growing this plant.
1. High porosity soil that drains well, but be careful that it doesn't dry out without you noticing if it doesn't retain much liquid, and you don't have an automatic irrigation system.
2. Ideal temperature between 60°F and 75°F
3. Ideal relative humidity between 50%-60% in vegetative states and 50%-30% in flowering stages.
4. 16 hours or more of light per day while you want vegetative growth without flowers.
5. When you want to start flowering, limit the hours of light to a maximum of 12 hours of light per day, and a minimum of 12 hours of total darkness without letting in a single ray of light.
6. During the vegetative stage, the plant prefers fertilizers rich in nitrogen to promote strong and robust vegetative growth. During the flowering period, it prefers low nitrogen and high phosphorus to promote flower development.
7. After harvesting the flowers, you should dry them in a dry, cool place for 1 to 2 weeks to prevent mold and terpene loss due to temperature.
8. After drying, it is recommended to cure them for an additional 2-3 weeks in a sealed container, opening them sporadically for air exchange until they have lost the grassy smell caused by chlorophyll and are at their perfect point for consumption.
9. Consume consciously and responsibly, and remember to follow the laws of your country to avoid problems.
10. Be happy…
