RICKY “DR. WEED” ALBARRAN - BUDTENDER THC DISPENSARIES

When you decided to become a budtender, what motivated you to take the step of getting your license to work in the industry?

I decided to become a budtender in 2017 after Hurricane Maria.

What motivated me to become a Budtender was a passion for the cannabis plant. Learning and better understanding all the benefits of this wonderful plant led me to want to help people in need so they can enjoy their lives more fully.

Patients are the most important thing in the life of budtenders. What anecdote can you tell us about the change you have seen in your patients when they return?

I'm very happy to see that young adults and older adults are considering medical cannabis as an alternative for managing their conditions. In the case of many older adults, I've witnessed them arrive using a cane, and over time I see them walking on their own. I've also seen many patients with anxiety and depression arrive happier and in a better mood after just a few days of treatment.

What is your favorite method of consumption?

My favorite method is to vaporize the flower at different temperatures.

In the morning, to start the day, I like the terpene limonene. It helps with heartburn and also puts me in a good mood for the day. Another way I like to consume it is with the terpene myrcene at 344 degrees F to "squeal" and relax. This terpene helps with insomnia and gets me going for a good start to the day.

Do you have a favorite strain?

My favorite strains are generally all sativas, hybrids, and indicas. ;) I really like Fire Ferrari from the sativas because it has a euphoric effect, tastes like vanilla, and I love vanilla. From the hybrids, I like Girl Scout Cookies because it explores your mind and helps you in moments of creativity, and since it's a strain for anorexia, it makes you very hungry, so it's perfect for eating! From the indica strains, I really like Purple Urkle because it relaxes you instantly and helps with pain, reduces inflammation quickly, and is perfect for insomnia.

What do you recommend to those patients who are starting to use cannabis?

I always recommend that patients who are starting out with cannabis begin with CBD to feed the endocannabinoid system (CB2) so that when they consume CB1 (THC), the first experiences of microdoses of 5 mg to 10 mg per medication are more pleasant.

How does cannabis help your life?

Cannabis is part of my lifestyle. It helps me connect with my surroundings and allows me to participate in extreme activities like surfing, skateboarding, inline skating, and fire juggling. It keeps me healthy and creative, and gives me the satisfaction of having a natural and highly effective alternative.

Does your family approve of your cannabis lifestyle? Tell us about it.

This transition to acceptance has not been easy for my parents, but I have taken it upon myself to educate them and share my experiences to make it a more bearable experience.
