Prohibitionist groups in other states are using deceptive tactics and dirty money to try to overturn voter-approved marijuana legalization laws in three states. We cannot allow them to succeed.
Here are the facts: In Massachusetts, the sole donor behind the petition to repeal legalization is an outside group that refuses to disclose the source of its funds. That same political action committee recently channeled $2 million to support a similar effort in Maine. Furthermore, another initiative is already being prepared in Arizona.
What is this dirty money used for? Among other things, it's used to pay signature collectors who deliberately mislead voters. In Maine, there were so many complaints that the Secretary of State stated that the collectors have a constitutional right to lie to obtain signatures. In Massachusetts, nearly half of those who signed said they had been deceived.
These tactics exist because the opposition knows they can't win with arguments. With public support, the truth can prevail.
