GROW FROM SEED SOWING

Greetings!

Since we're celebrating 420, I'm going to share a bit about what happens before a strain is regularly grown from seed. In a previous edition, we explained the phenotype selection process, known in our culture as "Pheno Hunt," where we choose the phenotype we want to preserve from the genetics we've chosen to grow.

Because, as we know, when you sow a packet of seeds of the same strain, in theory they should all have some similarity, but there will always be distinct characteristics among them. Just as two children of the same parents can be different from each other, even though they both come from the exact same lineage.

For this reason, it's not just a matter of having a packet of good seeds; if we want to get the best expression from that packet of seeds, we have to put in the work. This means growing all the seeds, identifying them, and taking clonal cuttings, also identifying them, to ensure which one belongs to each mother plant and maintain the same genetic makeup in the vegetative stage.

These children all flourish under the same conditions and in the end we choose just as they are with a modeling course, using as a measure the characteristics we are looking for.

In my case, I look for four main characteristics when choosing a phenotype. Here's what we look for and the things we consider in our grow when selecting our mother plants:

1. Plant structure (distance between internodes, how much they stretch when flowering, etc.)

2. Trichome formation and overall potency, terpene profile, etc.

3. How much does it produce

4. That the final product, i.e., the flowers, represent the genetics from which they come and the name they bear.

It must satisfactorily meet at least these four qualities to be considered. And if more than one phenotype meets all four, a second flowering round will be conducted only with those that excelled in the first, to choose the best of the best. I hope this is helpful in understanding some of the work that most patients and consumers are unaware of.

Have a great time this 420!!!
