HOW BLOCKCHAIN CAN BRING LIGHT BACK TO PUERTO RICO

The power went out again. And we all know what's coming. Heat, spoiled food, anger… and no one is giving a clear explanation.
In Puerto Rico, a company called Genera is responsible for generating electricity, and another, LUMA, is responsible for delivering it to our homes. When one fails, we all suffer. There are increasingly frequent blackouts and fewer and fewer responses. Genera is experiencing financial difficulties, and LUMA continues to be criticized for its poor service.
Meanwhile, we, the people, continue to wait… in the dark. We live in constant fear of losing our electricity, even though we pay dearly for it. And when we demand explanations, we are met with empty phrases and the same old excuses. But what if there were another way to manage energy? One where we know at all times how much electricity is being produced, where it is being used, and what is failing.
Without relying on official statements or being left wondering. That's where blockchain technology comes in. This tool would allow us to see in real time how much energy is available, who is generating it, and how it is distributed. And best of all, we could create community solar farms, where each home with solar panels shares its energy with its neighbors.
Everyone benefits, and everything is recorded clearly and securely. All of this can be organized with blockchain, without having to rely solely on LUMA and Genera. Puerto Rico has plenty of sunshine. What we lack is a system that gives us back control and trust.
In the next article, we'll explain how a community can set up its own solar energy network using this technology. Stay tuned… this is just the beginning.
